As you likely already know, the International Olympic Committee Executive Board made a preliminary decision not to make wrestling a sport competed in the 2020 Olympics. We were shocked and surprised by the IOC Executive Board’s decision, as we were assured of wrestling’s future inclusion as an Olympic sport as recently as yesterday by key leaders in the Olympic movement.
This means a couple of things. First it's time to look at your calendar and get signed up for this year's tournaments. In recent updates to the USA Wrestling Association there is a new rule requiring all wrestler's born before or on 9/1/93 to purchase their 2012 - 2013 Open License through www.usawmembership.com. The rule clarification, which was approved by the Board of Directors, is stated as follows:
"Memberships for athletes 19 years of age and older (age at the beginning of the membership year) will be called Open Licenses. These must be purchased through USA Wrestling online membership system and will cost $50. Entire membership fee goes to USA Wrestling in the form of non-restricted revenue."
PORTLAND, Ore. - Former Oregon State wrestler Les Gutches is part of the 2011 class that will be inducted into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame, it was announced Wednesday.
Congratulations and thanks go out to the following wrestling clubs that acheived exemplary status in the 2010-2011 OWA wrestling season.
